Claire Germaine LaFayette (nee Bachand)

Claire Germaine LaFayette passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 24, 2023 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK.

Claire will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 43 years, Arnold LaFayette of Regina, SK; her children Richard Spaeth of Regina, SK and Michelle Maier of Regina Beach, SK; her 5 grandchildren Richard Spaeth (Jennifer), Gina Starblanket, Layne Maier, Fallon Martin (Matthew) and Mistee Maier; her 8 great-grandchildren Nicholas, Benjamin, Lucas, Anna-Marie, Madison, Aden, Brooklyn and Kennedy; her brother Danny (Lucy) Bachand of Pincher Creek, AB; and her many beloved nieces, nephews and relatives. She will also be dearly missed by her friends and family at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Regina, SK.

Claire was predeceased by her father Arthur Bachand (1989); mother Germaine Bachand (2000); her brother Donald Bachand (2008); and her sister Olivette “Ollie” Bachand (2022).

Claire was born in 1940 in Rosetown, SK, her parents homesteaded in the nearby Stockdill-Thrasher District, after moving from North Hatley, QC. Claire attended St. Joseph’s Convent in Rosetown, and later studied accounting at McGill University in Montreal, QC. She went on to work at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Montreal, a small business entrepreneur in Regina, and at the CBC in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

Claire took deep pride in her family and community, her heritage, her family traditions and her humanitarian involvements. She was a past president, ladies’ auxiliary president and a long-term volunteer at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was also a woman of many passions, including baking, cooking, curling, road trips, traveling and spending time with her family, friends and pets. Claire will be remembered for her deep devotion to her faith and to the French culture, her enthusiasm for travel and adventure, her quick wit and her daring sense of humor.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. in Holy Rosary Cathedral, 3125 – 13th Avenue, Regina, SK.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Regina Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit 3A and to Danette Starblanket for their care and compassion.
